Assessment considers symptoms across settings and over time, functional impairment, developmental history, differential diagnoses, substance use, sleep, mood, anxiety, cardiovascular risk and medication history.

Typical pathway

Online formsIntake forms and prior records before your first visit.
Nurse screening visitRating scales, history and measurements with an RN or RPN.
NP assessmentDiagnostic assessment and treatment planning.
MonitoringA 15-minute nurse check (vitals, symptoms, side effects), then NP medication review.
Please note. Assessment does not guarantee an ADHD diagnosis or stimulant prescription. Historical school, work or family information helps establish symptom history where available.

Adults often book because of

  • Trouble starting, organizing or finishing tasks at work or school
  • Losing track of appointments, bills or deadlines
  • Restlessness, impulsivity or difficulty waiting
  • Long-standing distractibility that affects relationships or work
  • A child’s diagnosis that made you recognize the same pattern in yourself

What the assessment includes

  1. Online questionnaires and rating scales before your first visit, plus any school, work or past assessment records you have.
  2. A nursing screening visit: history, rating scales, blood pressure, pulse and weight.
  3. A diagnostic assessment with the Nurse Practitioner that also looks at sleep, mood, anxiety, substance use and other explanations for your symptoms.
  4. A written summary with the findings and the plan.
  5. If treatment starts, regular monitoring visits to check benefit, side effects, blood pressure and pulse.

Nurse Practitioner or psychologist for ADHD?

In Ontario both can assess and diagnose adult ADHD. The difference is what happens around the diagnosis.

  • Nurse Practitioner (this clinic): assessment, diagnosis, ruling out other causes such as sleep, thyroid or mood problems, prescribing when treatment suits you, and ongoing monitoring, all in one place. No referral needed.
  • Psychologist: longer psychological or psychoeducational testing, which helps when a learning disability is suspected or a school, college or insurer asks for a full psychological report. Psychologists don't prescribe.

If your assessment shows you need formal testing, we tell you and help you find it. If you already have a psychologist's report, bring it; it can shorten your assessment.
