Students talking in a classroom before placement

Designed for students entering healthcare, clinical, community and other placements that require health documentation. Administrative and nursing staff complete the appropriate components, with NP involvement when a clinical assessment, diagnostic order, prescription or clinical interpretation is required.

Student placement services

  • TB skin testing (TST/Mantoux), including one-step or two-step testing when required by the placement program.
  • TB test reading and documentation within the required reading window.
  • N95 respirator fit testing and documentation.
  • Immunization-record review and assistance identifying missing placement requirements.
  • Selected immunizations and injections where clinically appropriate and available.
  • Review and completion of school, college, university, clinical-placement and related health forms.
  • Vital signs, focused nursing assessment and other placement screening components where required.
  • Assistance coordinating supporting laboratory testing or medical follow-up when indicated.

If a TB skin test is positive

A positive TST requires clinical follow-up rather than repeat routine placement clearance. The care team can review the result and relevant history. When medically indicated and eligible for insured diagnostic imaging, an NP can facilitate an order for a chest X-ray through OHIP at a local imaging centre. Further assessment or referral may be recommended based on symptoms, exposure history, imaging and other clinical findings.

A positive TST does not by itself diagnose active tuberculosis. Anyone with symptoms concerning for active TB or significant exposure risk may require a different or more urgent assessment pathway.

Before your appointment

Bring the placement form and all available immunization, TB testing and laboratory records. Requirements vary by institution and placement site, so the clinic completes documentation based on the specific form and evidence available.

Wellbeing beyond placement requirements

Students and young adults can also access comprehensive psychosocial assessment and RSW counselling for emotional wellbeing, coping, relationships and school or work challenges. Explore psychosocial support
